Dimanche 8 mai

Journée tranquille à Nouméa, passée en partie avec Jean Marie le papa de Stéphanie.

Repérage du chemin pour aller à l’aéroport j’ai la fâcheuse manie de me perdre lorsque je suis en voiture dans Nouméa !

Malgré le temps menaçant, je fais une petite pause au calme dans un des cimetières ; ils sont dans des grands parcs.

Quiet day to Nouméa, spent partially with Jean Marie the dad of Stéphanie.

Location of the way to go to the airport I have the annoying mania to get lost when I am by car in Nouméa!

In spite of the threatening weather, I have a small break in the peace in one of the cemeteries; they are in big parks.

Samedi 7 mai, midi

Vers midi je m’arrête sur une aire où se trouve une grande famille kanak entrain de se photographier et de casser la croûte.

Très gentiment, la maman, Monique, m’a proposé de me joindre à eux et de partager leur repas. J’ai mangé un sandwich au jambon en leur compagnie. Très sympathique moment. Monique était là avec ses 8 enfants et sa première petite fille

Saturday, May 7^th noon

 

At around midday I stop on an area where is a big family Kanak spirit to photograph and to have a bite to eat.

Very friendly, the mom, Monique, suggested me joining me to them and sharing their meal. I ate a ham sandwich in their company. Very nice moment. Monique was with her 8 children and her first granddaugther there.

Après une nuit entière de pluie intense, accalmie sur le matin… Heureusement car je prends la route à 9 h du matin pour rentrer à Nouméa.

In the middle of nowhere!

After a whole night of intense rain, calm on the morning … Fortunately because I set off at 9am to return to Nouméa.

Enfin « route » est un bien grand mot !

Il s’agit plutôt de « piste » sur une grande partie du chemin…

 

La route goudronnée laisse très vite la place à une route en terre.

Route en très mauvais état, pleine de trous où je dois slalomer pour éviter les nids de poule…

Je roule à 20 ou 30 à l’heure maxi ! En première et en seconde en permanence !

Finally "road" is a very big word!

It is rather about "track" on a big part of the way …

The tarred road very fast makes way for a road in ground.

Road in very poor condition, full of holes where I have to swerve to avoid potholes …

 

I drive in 20 or 30 at the maxi hour! In first and second gear permanently!

Parfois il faut passer « des raviers », il s’agit de lit de rivière où l’on passe dans l’eau ; s’il a trop plu on ne peut pas passer… Donc je n’étais pas très rassurée en prenant la route le matin ! 

Sometimes it is necessary to cross « raviers », it is about river bed where we pass in the waterway; if it too much rained we cannot pass … Thus I was rather ill worried by setting off in the morning!

De nombreuses petites collines à passer avec des montées et descentes à pentes de 15°.

A de nombreux croisements, il n'y a pas de panneaux indicateurs, donc ce n’est pas évident pour rester sur la « bonne » route ! Donc, j’attendais qu’une voiture passe, pour l’arrêter et  demander quelle route prendre…

Of numerous small hills to be crossed with ascents and descents with slopes of 15 °.

In numerous crossings, no road signs, thus it’s not obvious to stay on the "good one" road! So, I waited that a car passes, I stopped it and I asked the driver what road to take …

En tout cas les paysages sont magnifiques ! Belle terre rouge qui contraste avec une végétation très verte et abondante.

In any case the landscapes are magnificent! Beautiful red ground which contrasts with a very green and plentiful vegetation.

C’est sur la ballade du barrage de Yaté

Balade « aérienne » autour du barrage

Vendredi 6 mai

Journée de marche dans la réserve terrestre du barrage de Yaté.

Sur un sentier escarpé parfois glissant, l’ascension, un peu physique, devient aérienne et étincelante. Au sommet, un point de vue permet d’embrasser le paysage jusqu’à l’embouchure de la Yaté.

Belle forêt primaire dense, où les kaoris de montagne se mêlent aux chênes gomme.

« Air » stroll around the dam  - Friday, May 6^th

Day of walking in the ground reserve of the dam of Yaté.

On a sometimes slippery steep path, the ascent, a little bit physical, becomes air and glittering. In the summit, a point of view allows to kiss the landscape up to the mouth of Yaté.

Beautiful dense primary forest, where the kaoris of mountain mix with oaks gum.
