Nous arrivons au terminus du bateau Bella Desgagnès.

We arrive at the terminus of the boat Bella Desgagnès.

Eldon, notre guide conteur nous attend. Il nous raconte l’histoire du lieu, l’histoire de ses ancêtres sur les traces desquels il est allé jusqu’à Jersey, il est intarissable, très intéressant et drôle.

Nous allons à la frontière du Labrador ; c’est un incontournable ici !

Il y a « Notre Dame de Lour- des » sur une petite colline dans la ville.

 

There is « Notre-Dame de Lourdes » on a small hill in the city.

La côte est très belle, une roche rose en contraste avec la mer. Nous roulons un moment jusqu’à la Cascade du Brador.

 

The coast is very beautiful, the pink rock in contrast with the sea. We drive a moment up to the Waterfall of Brador.

Maintenant nous allons entreprendre le chemin de retour jusqu’à Rimouski en nous arrêtant de nouveau à toutes les escales faites à l’aller.

Saint Augustin : 10ème escale / 10th call

Arrivée à 23 h à cette étape, je n’ai pas vraiment envie de sortir d’autant que le village, là aussi est loin de l’embarcadère…

Arrived at 11 pm at this stage, I don’t really want to go out especially as the village, there also is far from the landing stage…

On verra ça au retour !

La Tabatière : 9ème escale / 9th call

Il faut dîner tôt (à 17 h) pour être prêt à sortir à l’arrivée du bateau à 17 h 45 !

It’s necessary to have dinner early (at 5pm) to be ready to go out upon the arrival of the boat at 5:45pm!

Le nom du village vient de la langue Innu « tabaquen » qui signifie « sorcier » et qui a été francisé.

Les premiers commerçants Montagnais consultaient les sorciers avant de partir à la chasse dans les forêts intérieures.

 

The name of the village comes from the language Innu « tabaquen » which means « sorcerer » and which was frenchify.

Early Montagnais traders consulted sorcerers here before departing on hunting trips into the inland forests.

 

Nous faisons une petite marche digestive et nocturne, jusqu’au lac à proximité et au magasin général. Pas grand chose d’autre à faire. La Tabatière, village de pêcheurs est trop loin !

 

We make a small digestive and night walking, up to the lake nearby and to the general store. Not much of other thing to make. La Tabatière, fishermen's village is too far!

Tête à la Baleine : 8ème escale / 8th call

Jeudi après midi 29 septembre - Thursday afternoon, September 29^th

8^ème escale à Tête à la Baleine après 2 h de traversée !

8^th call in Tête à la Baleine after 2 hours of crossing!

Le village tire l’originalité de son nom d’une île, la première sur la course des voiliers, ayant la forme de la tête d’une baleine.

The village gets the originality of its name from an island shaped like the head of a whale, the first island one encounters along the main sailing route.

Le village (220 habitants) est assez loin, Dominique nous a trouvé une guide, Nicole, qui nous attend au bateau. Nous parcourons les 11 kilomètres qui nous séparent de Tête à la Baleine.

The village (220 inhabitants) is rather far, Dominique found us one guide who waits for us in the boat to travel the 11 kilometers which separate us from Tête à La Baleine (Head in the Whale).

 

Il y a une enfilade d’îles (Archipel de près de 600 îles et îlots dans ce coin là) dont certaines sont reliées entre elles par des remblais de pierres sur lesquels une route en gravillons a été faite

There is a row of islands (there, archipelago of about 600 islands and islets in this place) of which some are connected between them by stony embankment on which a road in bits of gravel was made

Les gens ici vivent de la pêche (pétoncles, homards, crabes) en respectant les quotas ! Pas d’industrie.

Here, people live on the fishing (scallops, lobsters, crabs) by respecting the quotas! No industry.

L’hiver ils se déplacent en moto neige, sur la « route blanche » et c’est finalement pour eux, assez facile de se déplacer ainsi. Le bateau ne dessert pas pendant quelques mois d’hiver.

The winter they move in snowbike, on the « white road » and it’s finally for them, rather easy to move so. The boat doesn’t serve for a few months winter.

 

Une plateforme pour un hélicoptère qui transporte les gens en cas de besoin. Un petit aérodrome est également à proximité pour la livraison des denrées fraiches pendant l’hiver.

 

A platform for a helicopter which transports people if necessary. A small aerodrome is also nearby for the delivery of fresh foodstuffs during winter. 

Pompiers et sauveteurs bénévoles assurent la sécurité ; ici on les appelle « les 1^er répondants » ; ils ont un matériel performant pour aller récupérer les victimes dans la neige…

Fire brigades and voluntary rescuers operate the security; here we call them « 1^st respondents » ; they have a performing equipment to go to get back the victims in the snow …

Les gens d’ici ne se sentent pas isolés !

People from here don’t feel isolated!

Pour ma part, je ne crois pas que j’aimerais vivre par ici… Trop loin de tout…

As for me, I don’t believe that I would like to live here … Too much far from everything …
