Je me lève tôt pour assister au lever du jour et du soleil !

I get up early to attend at dawn and the sunrise!

Port Menier, île d’Anticosti : 2ème escale / 2nd call

Mardi soir 27 septembre - Tuesday evening, September 27^th

2^ème escale à Port Menier après 7 h 30 de traversée sous un beau soleil.

2^nd call in Port Menier after 7 hours 30 of crossing under a beautiful sun.

Nous arrivons à 21 h et avons 2 heures 30. Le temps de l’arrêt est, en fait, calé sur le temps nécessaire au fret.

We arrive at 9 pm and have 2 hours 30. The time of the stop is in link, in fact, on the time required for the freight.

Je décide de marcher jusqu’au village de Port Menier, à une quinzaine de minutes à pieds ; il fait nuit, j’y vais à la lampe frontale ! Tout est fermé…

Je rencontre un cerf et une biche qui se baladent dans le village ; ils sont très nombreux sur l’île. Ils ont été introduits à Anticosti à partir de 1895 par Henri Menier un chocolatier français qui avait acheté l’île pour en faire son lieu de villégiature.

I decide to walk up to the village of Port Menier, in about fifteen minutes in feet; it's dark, I go with the headlamp there!

Everything is closed …

I meet a deer and a hind in the village; they are very many on the island. They were introduced to Anticosti from 1895 by Henri Menier a French chocolate maker who had bought the island to make it his holiday resort.

Sept-Iles : 1ère escale / 1st call

1^ère escale à Sept-Iles après une nuit de traversée.

1^st call in Sept-Iles after a night of crossing.

Le personnel s’occupe du fret et décharge et charge les containers.

Nous avons 4 heures, et trouvons un taxi pour aller jusqu’au musée.

The staff is in charge of the freight and unload and load containers.

We have 4 hours, and find a taxi to go up to the museum.

Très intéressant petit musée sur la vie locale, les innus, les premiers européens, la vie autour de la mer.

Very interesting small museum on the local life, the innus, the European first ones, the life around the sea.

Une spécialité : « Le Fléché », une ceinture québécoise, en laine colorée, tissée et portées à partir de 1775 par les nouveaux arrivants pour conserver la chaleur ; elle a ensuite servie de monnaie d’échange entre les amérindiens et les acheteurs de fourrure. Aujourd’hui elle est un symbole de la région et elle reste ancrée dans le folklore québécois.

A speciality: « Le Fléché » (« The Arrowed »), a colored woolen belt from Quebec, weaved and reaches from 1775 by the newcomers to keep the heat; it then served as currency between the Amerindians and the buyers of fur. Today it is a symbol of the region and it remains anchored in the folklore from Quebec.

Ça y est, je suis sur le quai devant le Bella Desgagnès, le bateau qui va m’emmener en croisière sur le Saint Laurent pendant 7 jours !

That's it, I am on the platform in front of the Bella Desgagnès, the boat which is going to take me in cruise on the Saint Laurent during 7 days!

C’est un bateau de fret qui transporte des containers qu’il livre à chacune de ses escales sur le fleuve. Toute la « Basse Côte Nord » est ravitaillée ainsi car la route (la 138) ne dessert pas encore tous les villages de la côte !

It’s a boat of freight that transports containers which it delivers to each of its stopovers on the river. All the « Basse Côte Nord » is provided so because the road (138) doesn’t still connect all the villages of the coast!

Personnel accueillant ; je découvre ma cabine, très confortable !

Nous partons à 22 heures ; première nuit à bord.

Welcoming staff; I discover my cabin, very comfortable!

We leave at 10 pm; at first night on board.
