Pour boucler la boucle, le lendemain matin juste avant de partir de Big Island pour Honolulu, je fais un tour en hélicoptère pour avoir une vue d’ensemble de l’île.

Ce que j’ai pu voir au sol pendant cette semaine, en prenant de la hauteur !

To loop the loop, the following morning just before leaving Big Island for Honolulu, I make a tour in helicopter to have an overview of the island.

What I was able to see on the ground during this week, by rising! 

Et voir aussi ce que je n’ai pas pu voir ! Les plantations de macadamia, bien alignées.

And see also what I was not able to see! The well aligned macadamia plantations.

On voit très nettement, d’en haut, la lave qui coupe la route pour aller se jeter dans la mer.

We see very clearly, from above, the lava which cuts the road to go to throw itself into the sea.

Voilà une semaine de découverte de Big Island vraiment très passionnante !

Vu du bateau – Seen from boat

Mercredi 27 juillet - Wednesday, July 27^th

Et comme la lave dans la mer est quand même un phénomène pas si fréquent, le soir nous prenons un bateau pour aller voir ça de face et en prendre plein les mirettes !

And as the lava in the sea is all the same a phenomenon not so frequent, in the evening we take a boat to go to see that of face and to be dazzled!

Sur le bateau ça secouait « un peu » !!!  - On the boat it was "a little" bumping!!!

Mais ça valait la peine, n’est-ce-pas ? ! - But it was worth it, isn’t it?

FABULEUX… - FABULOUS...`

On a du mal à s'arracher de là !

Nous continuons l’exploration de cette belle île de Big Island par une ballade en journée jusqu’aux falaises. L’île toute entière est faite de lave !

 

Tuesday, July 26^th

We continue the exploration of this beautiful Big Island
by a day ballad up to cliffs. All the island is made by lava!

Et le soir, nous retournons sur le champ de lave active, mais cette fois, côté mer, car la lave est arrivée jusqu’à la falaise et se jette dans la mer.-

C’est un phénomène qui n’était pas arrivé depuis 3 années.

C’est fascinant !

And in the evening, we return on the field of active lava, but this time, sea side, because the lava arrived up to the cliff and throws itself into the sea.

It is the phenomenon which had not arrived for 3 years.

It is fascinating!

Il faut être vigilant pour ne pas se laisser encercler par les coulées de lave très abondantes ce soir.

It is necessary to be all eyes not to let surround by the very plentiful lava flows this evening.

La température est tellement élevée que les vagues n’arrivent même pas à éteindre le feu de la lave qui continue à brûler dans l’eau. Le contact de l’eau et de la lave provoque

une énorme fumée. Heureusement le vent souffle dans le bon sens par rapport à où nous sommes installés pour voir ce magnifique spectacle !

The temperature is so raised that waves do not even manage to put out the fire of the lava which keeps burning in the water.

The contact of the water and the lava causes an enormous smoke. Fortunately the wind blows in the right direction with regard to where we are installed to see this magnificent show!

Lundi 25 juillet

C’est étonnant cette île toute de lave !

Quand la lave est ancienne, la végétation petit à petit repousse dessus, ça donne des paysages très contrastés avec le noir de la lave et le vert bien tendre des arbres nouveaux !

 

Monday, July 25^th

It is surprising this island quite of lava!

When the lava is old, the vegetation little by little regrowth above, that gives landscapes very contrasted with the black of the lava and the soft green new trees!

Le soir nous sommes allés voir le coucher du soleil sur la montagne où se trouvent les observatoires, à 4196 mètres d’altitude (ça caillait là haut !). 

 

The evening we went to see the sunset on the mountain where is monitoring observatories, in 4196 meters in height (it was freezing top there!).

 

Puis nous avons pu voir dans des télescopes installés plus bas par des bénévoles, les étoiles et quelques planètes (Saturne, Jupiter) et la voie lactée

Then we were able to see in telescopes installed lower by volunteers, stars and some planets (Saturn, Jupiter) and the Milky Way.
