The Cerro’s Virgin / La vierge du Cerro

This amazing painting at the 18th century painted by an unknown person condenses the Bolivia’s history.

In the centre the face of the Virgin is represented in the mountain embodying here Pachamama [Pachamama: Earth-mother (or Nourishing earth in Quechua), is the goddess-earth in the Amerindians of South America’s religion]

Painted in the mountain are silver’s veins and also the Inca Huayna Capac come to Potosi before Spanish and who ordered Indians the exploitation of the mine

On each side of the mountain are the Sun (Inti) and the Moon (Quilla) which are Inca divinities

At the top in the sky the catholic religion’s trinity brought by Spanish, God the Father, the Son and holy Spirit, surrounded with angels

Below on the right emperor Charles the Fifth builder of the Empire where the sun never lies down, symbolized by a blue sphere. To the left, the Pope and the bishop representing the religious authorities

En haut dans le ciel la trinité de la religion catholique amenée par les espagnols, Dieu le Père, le Fils et le Saint Esprit, entourés d’anges

En bas à droite l’empereur Charles Quint bâtisseur de l'Empire où le soleil ne se couche jamais, symbolisé par une sphère bleue. A gauche, le Pape et un évêque représentant les autorités religieuses
